If you’re sick of your gel nails and ready for a change, there’s no need to head to the salon. You can remove gel nails at home with a little bit of time and patience. Here’s what you need to know.
What you’ll need:
– acetone
– cotton balls
– aluminum foil
– a nail file
– a nail buffer
– a cuticle pusher
– a cuticle oil
– a hand cream
Step 1:
Start by filing the top layer of your gel nails. This will help the acetone to penetrate the gel and break it down.
Step 2:
Soak a cotton ball in acetone and press it onto your nail. Wrap your nail in a piece of aluminum foil to hold the cotton ball in place.
Step 3:
Repeat this process for all of your nails and then let them sit for about 20 minutes.
Step 4:
After 20 minutes, check to see if the gel has started to lift. If it has, use a cuticle pusher to gently push the gel off of your nails. If it’s not budging, give your nails a few more minutes.
Step 5:
Once the gel is off, use a nail buffer to smooth out your nails. Follow up with a cuticle oil and hand cream to hydrate your hands and nails.
